CGS Publishing Technologies International, a global leader in colour management solutions for printing, publishing and packaging was named a 2009 Automation Business Partner of the Year by Xerox Corporation's Global Business Group for its continued contribution to Xerox, its customers and the printing industry. DIGTALVIEW APPOINTED FOGRA PSO PARTNER

DigitalView has received accreditation as a Fogra PSO Partner. This gives us the ability to assist Print Companies to achieve PSO (“Process Standard Offset” or ISO 12647) certification. DigitalView has gone through the process of developing expertise in colour print production over many years. In February 2010, Laura Minter travelled to Fogra’s headquarters in Munich, Germany to receive final training and to write the qualifying examination.

This means that DigitalView can perform an audit on any Print Company wanting to implement ISO 12647 Standard, irrespective of what production systems are in place, issue a report outlining what (if any) procedures need to be implemented and then assist with the execution of the onsite certification test for evaluation by Fogra. Fogra then issues certification of the Company’s conformance to the standard.

Although the ISO 12647 standard was introduced some 10 years ago, few Print Company’s in South Africa have so far adopted the standard. Some printers consider ISO 12647 Standardisation to be costly, time consuming, and ineffective. The truth? Standardisation allows Print to comply with simple rules that have been agreed between industry experts and their clients. ISO 12647 Standardisation is a framework of simple procedures that will allow printing companies to print more predictably, efficiently, and most importantly will improve the product quality delivered to the client.

The difference is the superior quality and consistency of the image that conforms to a standard and the more predictable the resulting proof and print. Standardisation and process control not only ensure quality, but also make it repeatable – what is printed today can be reproduced next month, next year. ISO 12647 standard covers all aspects of colour management in Print, from files submission through to press control.

Some argue that standardization limits the ability to stand out. This is definitely not the case because standardization is only a starting point. It does not mean that – for example – shop standards cannot be set to work to more stringent tolerances. Also, individuality is not stifled with standards. The art of high quality print is still alive!

We aim to show that adopting PSO certification can bring major benefits to the print industry. With the real challenges “conventional” print faces from internet publishing, digital print, etc., offset printers need to achieve higher levels of quality and do this more efficiently – PSO will make this task easier.
